Benevolence Fund

Benevolence Fund

Year by year the congregation generously supports the Benevolence Fund. This Fund allows the congregation to underwrite the monthly Soup Bus program, and other emergency needs.

We provide meals at St. Vincent de Paul’s monthly on the first Wednesday of the month.  The services we provide cost annually about $12,000.

Those who generously support the Fund know that their gifts and prayer support do make a difference. Thank you.

Soup Bus

St. Giles, along with many other local churches, participate once a month making, serving, and cleaning up Sunday lunch or Wednesday supper.

The Soup Bus Ministry is an outreach to St. Vincent de Paul that has been going for more than 25 years.  Here at St. Giles on the first Wednesday of each month, we make supper.  A team gathers at the church in the morning to prepare the sandwiches, soup, and fruit. Another team later delivers the food to St. Vincent’s where they serve the food and clean up.

Contact Margaret Plewes through the Church Office if you would like to help, either on the Wednesdays, or by preparing soup stock ahead of time.

Prayer Shawl Ministries

Prayer Shawl Ministry meets monthly – Contact Lynda Bateman through the church office.

At St. Giles we have a group of dedicated knitters and crocheters who create beautiful shawls.

The purpose of St. Giles Prayer Shawl Ministry is to create prayer shawls made with prayer and love for people needing the warm arms of concern wrapped around them, and wool! The shawls are given to people who are ill, who have suffered a loss, or who have had some other type of life crisis.

In addition to praying, and knitting or crocheting at home, members of the group meet monthly at the church to work together and pray for those who will receive their shawls. The shawls are blessed during a church service before being given to the recipient.

Get Involved

You can join our Prayer Shawl Ministry by getting involved in making shawls with us. Donations of either yarn or monies to purchase yarn will be most appreciated.

We also love giving out our prayer shawls. You can request a shawl for a friend or loved one you know that is in need. Each shawl is delivered to the recipient along with a card containing a special message.
